Okay, so we decided to say/believe that God exists. When you think about God what does it make you feel? Scared? Curious? Excited? Nervous? Angry? Relieved? Maybe you feel a whole bunch of all that. It’s okay. I think it’s really difficult to determine what He is really like in our human minds but He is not scary, He is worth getting curious about, excited about and maybe even a little nervous about. You can get angry at Him, He can take it. Most of all you should feel relieved. The fact that He does exist gives us something that keeps us going…HOPE!!! What’s the point without HOPE. We need HOPE in a world like this. We need something better to look forward to.
Did you know that God wants friends. He really really likes people and He wants you to be His friend. The problem is the devil doesn’t want you to be friends. The devil has worked overtime to make God uninteresting, unwanted, appear scary, condemning and even down right mean. So God has His work cut out to show you and me that He wants to be our friend and that He is not mean, scary, or condemning.
Have you ever been overlooked, forgotten, left out, rejected? Remember what it was like in school when two captains would chose players to be on their team and you were picked last, or do you remember when you were not chosen to hold a certain office, or when you were not invited to a party all your friends were going to? How did it feel to be undesired? How did it feel to be passed over?
Have you ever asked someone if they love you? That is a scary question to ask someone because your heart is on a platter. Jesus asks us if we love Him? He is putting His heart out there on a platter. Jesus is being vulnerable, honest, and hopeful. Jesus is asking if we care about Him.
Reverse the matter at hand for a moment. We always ask people if they need God. We try to convince people that they need God. But folks, here is the thing, God NEEDS YOU!!! God is saying He wants to be friends with us/you. Revelation 3:20 says: ” I am standing at your heart’s door, knocking. Anyone who hears my voice and opens the door will be glad, for I will come in and eat with him and he with Me.” Jesus is not ashamed to beg for you but He will never force it. We must accept Him, the guy knocking on our door, asking to be friends. Once a Rebel.
